SAN SEBASTIAN TOUR
Looking for some real Mexican
history and culture? You can find it here.
Nestled high up in the Sierra Madre is a little
mining town called San Sebastian. This Spanish
colonial town dates back to 1605, when it was a
gold and silver mining center, once housing over
4,000 people. Today, San Sebastian is a retreat,
hidden from the tourists of Puerto Vallarta, and
home to only about 600 citizens. Spend a day
getting the feel for real Mexico in this historic
community.
On the way to San Sebastian,
you'll visit a local Raicilla distillery
in the small village of La Estancia, where you can
sample the unique and potent local liquor.
Then you'll drive 4,500 feet
up into the mountains, where you'll find San Sebastian,
much as it was over 400 years ago. Here you
can visit one of the areas only industries, a coffee
factory named La Quinta, where you'll see
how the coffee is grown, picked, and processed.
Then it's time for lunch at Lupita's
Restaurant, where you'll be treated to a full variety
of exquisite Mexican plates. After the delicious
lunch, you'll enjoy a walk through the historic
downtown area, where you'll visit The Museum
of Dona Conchita, and the famous San Sebastian
Church, with time to explore on your own and take
pictures before heading back to Puerto Vallarta.
